Abstract: | The coastal regions. of India are battered frequently by severe Cyclones resulting in large scale destruction, damage to properties and buildings, deaths, injuries and socio-economic upheaval in the area, necessitating the conduct of post-disaster field surveys to assess the damage. In the present study the salient details of a building typology survey and a damage survey for past cyclone conducted in cyclone affected East Godavari, West Godavari and Krishna districts of Andhra Pradesh state, has been presented. The data collected was analyzed and a format of survey questionnaire was prepared for future surveys: The use of computers for design of Civil Engineering Structures is most common today. The computers permit the designer to retain full control over the design process and the process becomes faster and more flexible. Keeping this in view a user interactive computer software has been developed in 'C' Language for the assessment of design adequacy or safety of Tiles, Battens, Rafters, Roof projection and Walls of a typical Hipped Roof Building with a predominant combinations of walling and roofing materials, commonly used in those areas. After the failure analysis, Computer Aided Retrofitting has been done for the members, which are subjected to failure. The rehabilitation and design recommendations are made for both damaged and undamaged but structurally inadequate buildings. |
