Abstract: To meet the requirement of construction with large use of reinforced concrete elements in the construction of building there is need for rapid and economical design. The adoption of prefabrication leads to a product with better finish, strength and quality. The materials are effectively utilized and there is saving in time and cost. At the places of adverse 'climatic and weather conditions adoption of prefabrication leads to ease in construction, as the construction is not affected by the weather conditions. In the cases when the time period is most important factor then adoption of prefabrication is preferred. This thesis intends to give a general program for design of prefabricated concrete flooring elements namely solid concrete plank, prefabricated joists and hollow core slab units conforming to IS 13990 : 1994 requirements. The computer programs are written in 'C' language. The design programs are general. This program is interactive and so the designer has considerable flexibility in design. A parametric study has also been carried out, which gives useful information to the designer so that he can achieve economy in design.
