dc.description.abstract | To meet the requirement of construction with large use of reinforced concrete elements in the building construction there is a need for more rapid economical design. The flat slab floor construction system is quite popular in developed countries. Flat slab has the advantages of pleasing appearance, ease in construction, lesser form work and economy in case of large spans and heavy loads. A software package has been developed for the analysis and design of flat slabs to ease the process of design. This thesis intends to give a general program for design of flat slabs. The computer program has been written in 'C' language. The design program is quite general. This program is interactive and so the designer has considerable flexibility in design. The design philosophy is based on "Direct Design Method" of IS: 456 — 2000. Loading on slab is incorporated according to IS: 875 (Part 2) — 1987. A parametric study has also been carried out which gives useful information to the designer. Main output given by the package will be as follows: Depth of slab: (a) Depth from moment criteria (b) Depth from deflection criteria (c) Overall depth provided 2. Drop dimensions (size and depth) 3. Size of column head 4. Panel wise reinforcement details, with strip widths 5. The graphics part produces the following drawings: (a) Cross-sectional view of the section at column strip (b) Cross-sectional view of the section at middle strip. | en_US |
