Issue Date: 2007
Abstract: As per the past scenario, damages occurred to the bridges due to failure of bearings, and substructure. If the proper expansion gap is not provided in between the adjacent spans, the superstructure will have pounding effect and deck of the bridge will get damaged. The effect of soil structure interaction on foundation has to be considered if the bridge is sited at loose soil deposits. Hence, this dissertation work is being carried out to study the effect of bridge components like modeling of bearings, modeling of soil structure interaction, modeling of abutment backfill, modeling of expansion joint at support level. To study these effects on dynamic response of the structure two types of modeling is done in the general-purpose finite element software SAP2000. The analysis is carried out for both linear and non-linear time history
