Abstract: The main profession of the India is agriculture; about 75% population of India is involved in agricultural activity. The contribution in economy due to agriculture is more as compare to any other profession. The effect of waterlogging reduced the production so it is very important to identify the waterlogged areas. The waterlogging increases the salinity of the land hence reducing the production of crop. The identification of water logged area can be done by manually, which is slow, tedious and time consuming. There have been considerable advances both in methodology and technology for identification of water logged areas during last three decades. The Remote Sensing technology plays a very important role in identifying the water-logged area. Application of Remote Sensing technology has resulted in timely availability of repetitive and reliable information necessary for the development of resource management. The integrated use of Remote Sensing techniques will narrow down the search by elimination of unworthy areas and help to concentrate on potential areas, thus saving time and cost of monitoring of resources. In this dissertation work, an attempt has been made to study and identify the water-logged area. The test site selected for the study comprises the Kosi river surrounding area of Bihar state in India.
