Abstract: The present dissertation work deals with the comparative study of existing IS: 1893-1984 Code and revised Draft Code in terms of base shear, storey shears, lateral drift, torsional shears for some of the multistoreyed buildings constructed in different parts of India. Five multistoreyed buildings (both symmetrical and unsymmetrical) ranging from four to fifteen storeys located in Zone III, and Zone V have been considered. Buildings have been analysed using seismic coefficient method, response spectrum method and modal analysis as recommended by the Codes. The base shear quantities are compared for multistoreyed buildings between existing IS: 1893-1984 and revised Draft Code. Results of the study indicates that for building less than 40m in height in Zone III (using response spectrum method) base shear was increased by 44% in Draft Code. In the revised Code separate spectra are used for the rock and soil sites, which increased base shear for soil site, but decreased it in case for rock site. For two problems modal analysis has been done. Effect of torsion has been taken care of in case of unsymmetrical buildings
