dc.description.abstractThe present study comprises development of a two-dimensional horizontal contaminant transport model and its subsequent application to a field problem. The model is capable of simulating two-dimensional horizontal flow and solute transport in a groundwater aquifer. The simulation is based upon a finite-difference (IADIE) based numerical solution of two coupled differential equations governing flow and solute transport in a porous media. A computer code has been developed in C++ language to implement the solution. The model is capable of projecting the spatially and temporally distributed piezometric head and solute concentration in groundwater. The model has been applied to simulate the transport of ash slurry (emanating from a thermal power station) into an aquifer hydraulically connected to the disposal site of the slurryen_US
