Abstract: Recent years have witnessed a rapid increase in the use of computer softwares for analysis, design and drafting. In this dissertation, a program for design of R.C.C. column has been developed. The design of reinforced concrete column is based on the Limit State Method of design satisfying IS: 456 — 2000 Code Provisions. The program can design axially loaded columns, columns with load and uniaxial bending and columns with load and biaxial bending. It The program is written in C language, is user friendly and easy to modify. It designs short columns subjected to axial load with uniaxial moment without using design charts and is interactive. Both long columns and biaxially loaded columns are designed as per design charts given by SP:16, taking the values automatically from design charts of SP:16 which have been inbuilt. Hence this program eliminates the cumbersome procedure of referring to charts, tables etc. for design. The program provides more accurate and speedy solutions for design of columns. Comparison of results of solved examples of standard books and results from software validates the program. A parametric study has been carried out using the program which provides useful information.
