Masonry, one of the oldest building material known to man, has been extensively used world wide as a structural material in the construction of bdiding and other structures. In India, there is no code for design of masonry reinforced concrete composite sections. Due to the lack of any design information its use is neither popular nor acceptable to the professional engineers. In the dissertation work an attempt has been made to study the suitability of brick masonry reinforced concrete composite construction for columns where in outer masonry shell acts as lost formwork and subsequently it acts integrally with the reinforced concrete core and improves the load carrying capacity of the section. The study also aims to carry out the computer aided analysis and design of masonry reinforced concrete composite columns with limit state approach using the computer program developed in 'C'. To facilitate and promote the use of this type of construction suitable interactive design charts have also been prepared.en_US
