Global Positioning System (CPS) is primarily a navigation system for real time positioning. The use of artificial satellites in GPS technique of measurements on the surface of the earth or ocean, has overcome the numerous limitations of the terrestrial surveying methods being employed by the surveyors in map making and by the engineers in their engineering projects. The GPS technique is now being successfully employed by the engineers worldover in various engineering projects due to its versatility, ease in working, accuracy and economy.Though due to increased receiver cost and restrictions implemented by the Department of Defence (DoD), United States, the technique still finds its limited use. GPS can successfully be employed for mapping of the existing roads of the country situated in the regions where the conventional ground surveying methods or photogrammetric methods become impossible or very expensive. The present work is a first attempt in this direction. It gives the complete procedure of using the GPS and determination of accuracy of the measurements. Due to several limitations a complete road mapping project could not be taken up.en_US
