Authors: Reddy, Venkata Ramana

Issue Date: 1996
Abstract: Wells are commonly used as foundations for huge structures like water towers, silos, chimneys, T.V. towers, bridge piers and water front structures. This type of a foundation is widely used particularly in the case of bridges over rivers.Keeping this point in view, this dissertation is directed towards development of a computer program to facilitate the tedious design procedure getting executed in an easy, quick and efficient way. The program developed is of interactive type and applicable to single lane and double lane bridges and also applicable to pier and abutment foundations. The program is written in 'C' language and can be executed on a personal computer. One numerical example with assumed data has been solved and compared with manual calculations to check the correctness of the developed program. Three illustrative examples have also been solved using this program and the resutls are presented. The resutls showed that Elastic approach of lateral stability analysis provides conservative design as compared to Ultimate approach of lateral stability.
