dc.description.abstractA new approach to estimate particulates emission from roads is developed as a part of a road dust study that took place in Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee during the period 2002-03. The Steady State Emission of Particulates from Roads (STEPFR) method uses air-borne silt loading or silt loading affected at a particular place due to vehicular transportation. Method is based on the developed empirical equation, in which the air-borne silt depends upon the various operating parameters; however this does not give the real time concentrations of PM 10 and PM 2.5 during the measurement with recorded data. The result of the STEPFR and their analysis show that the roads with high traffic volume are found to be cleaner than lower speeds roads. The results of the STEPFR study provide an improved understanding of the factors that control the emissions of the dust from roads.en_US
