Issue Date: 2003
Abstract: In the present work, experimental study has been carried out for the removal of two different VOCs (Isopropyl alcohol and Methyl Ethyl Ketone) from the wastewater by surface aeration. Three different types of impellers (Radial-axial, Vaned disc and Flat blade type) having two different diameters at three different rotational speeds (150 rpm, 200 rpm and 250 rpm) have been used. It has been found that Radial-axial impeller gives the best removal efficiency (>99.9%) in 5 hrs. at 250 rpm, when an initial concentration of 10 mg/L was taken. Vaned disc type impeller shows better performance (removal efficiency) than Flat blade impeller. The effect of rotational speed of impeller on the removal efficiency has been studied. It has been found that with the increase in rotational speed removal efficiency increases for all types of impellers and for both VOCs .The effect of the diameter of the impeller on the removal efficiency has been investigated and found that the impeller having larger diameter (half of the tank diameter) gives better performance.
