dc.description.abstractCooling tower plays the major role in waste heat removal in manufacturing, air conditioning, chemical and petrochemical processes. In this work beginning with a brief description of different type of cooling devices for water cooling along with their advantages and disadvantages, we move on to take a deeper look into different components of water cooling tower with the aim of finding the scope for design improvements to achieve better efficiency and energy savings. The operation of the conventional cooling tower is often characterized by the discharge of a plume consisting of a suspension of minute droplets of water in air. Such an output can be a nuisance and sometimes a hazard. Methods to reduce plume from the tower have been discussed. -Closed-circuit e_vaporati_ve_co_oling_as well as a brief mention about the turbulent bed cooling tower has also been included in the work. Model development of water cooling towers has been carried out and a design procedure has been outlined for computer aided designing of the towers. A computer program based on this procedure has been prepared and the results compared with available data.en_US
