Abstract: To safeguard the environment from hazardous and toxic wastes and wastewater is of prime importance. Toxicity irreversibly danger the life support system and the contaminant of the soil and water aquifer pose long term problem. Therefore, an efficient and safe management of hazardous sludge like electroplating industry sludge is necessary. Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) and Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) have given the tolerance limit of various parameters for the wastewater of electroplating industries, being discharged into municipal sewer and surface water. After the treatment of electroplating wastewater, the treated water is discharged into .municipal sewer. In treatment of wastewater, only sludge is left in the treatment plant. The presence of heavy metal in the plating sludge makes it hazardous for landfilling, so before landfilling, it is very important that sludge have to be treated by some chemicals. These heavy metals are fixed in the sludge by chemical fixation process. The present work is aimed to analyse the plating sludge and then fix it with some chemical fixation method. After the fixation, the plating sludge is dumped into proper designed landfilling with leachate collection and treatment system.
