There has been a, simultaneous growth in awareness of quality of environment, in the ability to measure it's chemical constituents with greater accuracy and precision, and in the widespread use of mathematical models for estimating the transport and dispersion of air pollutants during the last two decades,. In recent years, special attention has been given to the problem resulting from large-range transport of air pollutant over a large regional/continental area. The development of suitable model for this application is a difficult task, considering the very large geographical area involved. The diagnosis of air pollution episode involving regional scale has been aided by gaussian dispersion model. For proper estimation of ground level pollutant concentration at different downwind location, the gaussian model has been found to be best suited for Indian conditions and has been recommended by Central Pollution Control Board. It was therefore selected as the most appropriate model for development of software program to be used in this work. An efficient software program in 'C' language has been developed and used in this work. The software is capable of determining stability classes as per recommendation of central Pollution Control Board and intelligent enough to select the proper stability class.en_US
