dc.description.abstract | The construction sector is a major consumer of energy hence; produce a lot of carbon release in the environment. This released carbon has two classifications. One is the embodied energy and second is operating energy. To reduce carbon content of any neighbourhood it is necessary to lower these values. The aim of this study is to make a low carbon design for a neighbourhood in North India. The literature survey reveals that the percentage of resource consumption is high in construction sector. Also one of the highest percentages of construction takes place in residential sector. Therefore if we can establish any change in this area which will result in lesser carbon release then its effect will be considerable. The methodology adopted for this study is that an existing neighbourhood is studied and its embodied energy and operating energy is found out. Then these values are carefully analyzed and it is observed that which areas can be curtailed to reduce the carbon content. Then another new neighbourhood is proposed on the same site with the suggested changes. And now the values of the existing neighbourhood and the proposed neighbourhood are compared. Also some other methods are suggested which play their role in reduction of the carbon content both directly and indirectly. This helps us to analyze that how much is the reduction possible in this case and whether is it effective. | en_US |
