Abstract: Shelter is of supreme important to man. It is the prime factor in his constant struggle, for survival. In his efforts to shelter himself from the extremes of weather and climate these dwellings have been evolved. These evolved after accumulated experience of many generations. So the study of the past has a philosophic value apart from making us aware of the complexity and overlapping of things. "We need to identify risks and the consequences of these risks- therefore risk assessment is the basic information that is of utmost important in the rural situation there is very thin line between manmade & natural disaster like cyclone, heavy winds and fire hazards." "It is not the disasters that kill, it is the built environment which kills masses, as, a strong disaster finds its alley in a weak building." In this topic many disciplines such as architecture, cultural geography, anthropology, behavioral sciences and building science overlap. The study is rather focused on buildings, their creation and the relation of the relation of the dwelling to the culture, because the form and organization are greatly influenced by the cultural milieu to which it belong.
