Abstract: The most pressing. and at the same time the most frustating • of today's transportation problems is intercity and intracity transportation. The crises in transportation is largely the result of growing population and economic activities. Every metropolitan area in India is confronted with transportation problems which seem to be destined to became more aggravated in the years ahead. Growth of. population and expansion of urban areas are continually increasing the passenger and freight movement. The overcrowding in trains and buses is being witnessed very commonly and the problem is more acute in metropolitan areas. As the transportation infrastructure has not kept pace with the demends, the conjustion has become & major problem. Efficient transportation plays a vital role in the proper functioning of any metropolitan area. Therefore, it is extremely necessary to envisage clearly & transportation system that articulates the interurban and intraurban movement of people and goods; and the change over facilities from mode to mode and also from one mode to other modes.
