Abstract: Earthquakes systematically bring out the mistakes made in design and construction - even the most minute mistakes; it is this aspect of earthquake engineering that makes it challenging and fascinating, and gives it an educational value for beyond it's immediate objectives. The performance of structures subjected to an earthquake is the most direct test. of the re.l.lability and efficiency of the methods employed in their design and construction. There-fore performance study and analysis in the post earthquake session is a must. The work presented in the following pages is an attempt to study the real behaviour of the Maneri Dam during Uttarkashi Earthquake of October 20, 1991.
