The flow through weirs and sluice gates are the general occuring phenomena in open channel hydraulics. The use of former as flow measuring device and the later as flow regulating device is very old. Thus slot can be useful for both purposes of flow measurement and flow regulation. At present there is not a definite relationship which enables the determination of discharge characteristics of slot. Therefore, in the present study, extensive experimental work has been done and the data obtained are analysed to develop a mathematical relationship for the determination of discharge characteristics.en_US
