dc.description.abstractThe growing need for observing interconnected environmental conditions of a large area on a continuous basis and in a quick plus economic manner has resulted in more and more application of remote sensing techniques for the same. Present study aimed at the use of ISRO developed SR-02 in monitoring the water quality of a local pond, in order to ascertain the capability of the instrument in this regard as well as to suggest a model for estimation of the water quality parameters of pond. For developing a model that can be used for quality monitoring through out the year : simulation of future possibilities for water quality needs to be made in advance. This has been attempted and with spectral response (reflectance) as input a model for suspended solids concentration as been developed. Afterwards some important parameters viz. B.O.D., Nitrates and Phosphates etc. were correlated with S.S. concentration. It was found that error in estimation of S.S. concentration may range from 5% to 10% when this model is used. Error estimate for other parameters which were correlated with S.S. shows relatively higher values.en_US
