dc.description.abstractThe phenomenal growth of traffic on urban transportation corridors has resulted in a lot of traffic and transportation problems with economic and environmental concerns, restricting the range of action that can be taken. Improved management and control of traffic, represents an attractive alternative than can lead to a cost effective solution of these traffic and transportation problems. In the present study parameters considered for the performance evaluation of Ring Road in Delhi are route characteristics, traffic flow characteristics, bus service characteristics, noise level characteristics, road user cost characteristics. At some of major intersections and mid block sections of Ring Road traffic volume is found to be very high during peak hour, resulting in low journey speed, and abnormal travel delays. The passengers on the buses found to be very high in comparison to the capacity of buses. Based on the analysis of the above parameters some improvement measures have been proposed to reduce congestions at mid block section and delays at intersections as well as to increase the average speed of vehicles and to reduce noise level and to avoid accidents.en_US
