On a global level, there is a growing interest in the use of drip irrigation. In many arid' and semiarid areas, drip irrigation is the only method of irrigation. Though drip irrigation system varies according to topography, size and shape of irrigated area and crop type; the design of drip irrigation network is very much similar to water supply pipe networks. As no literature exists on the optimal design of drip irrigation system considering the uniformity of discharge applications, in this study an algorithm has been developed for complete design of drip irrigation system. Using the algorithm variation of cost of system in relation to uniformity coefficient can be obtained; thus, facilitating the selection of acceptable design. The use of the developed software has been demonstrated for various configurations of drip irrigation network and different sizes of rectangular field. strips.en_US
