dc.description.abstractThe growth of cities into metropolitan cities has created serious and challenging transportation problems. Due to more concentration of major urban centres, the development satellite towns in India has become essential. An attempt has been made to study the pattern of passenger and goods movement between Delhi and its satellite towns in U.P. In this study the study region consists of Noida, Greater Noida and Ghaziabad and the transport demand within the region alongwith its interface with Delhi has been considered. The raw data was collectl4through road-side origin-destination Survey. A number of transport demand modelling techniques have been attempted in the past to study the travel characteristics and to estimate the transport demand for horizon years. Review of these techniques have been made in this work and the gravity model is used for estimating and forecasting of future passenger traffic. Attraction Constrained gravity model is used for estimating and forecasting the freight flow in the study Area. The best model for passenger transport demand has been obtained for the value of power function n = 1.62 as exponent for the deterrence used in terms of time taken for inter-zonal travel distance. Elasticity constant for cereal for best model is found out to be 1.50 whereas for other commodities is found out to be 1.1en_US
