A canal fall is an irrigation structure constructed across a canal to lower its water level and destroy the surplus energy liberated, from the falling water which may otherwise scour the bed and banks of the canal. Its necessity arises whenever natural slope of the country is steeper than the longitudinal slope provided in the irrigation canal. On any irrigation canal network number of canal falls are required. The purpose of present study is to develop a optimum method for the design of canal fall keeping in view the cost of canal fall as well as safety. In present study, a formulation of objective function and constraints have been done and a program is prepared in FORTRAN for optimization of unflumed glacis type canal fall. A graphic package using plot 88 has also been developed to plot logitudinal sectional view of the designed section.en_US
