Issue Date: 1994
Abstract: In India temprature variations are large throughout the year and a treatment system which can work efficiently in cold as well as in warm climate, is needed. A more heat resistant plant, Duckweed Lemna, has been cited, though the literature available is very. scanty. In India neither there is any treatment plant based on duckweed system nor any study on pilot plants have been reported, thus only a preliminary attempt to test the efficency of duckweed system for treating waste water has been undertaken in this study. During the course of the experimental study it was found that the result obtained are promising. Various waste water parameters viz. COD, BOD, DO, TN and pH were analysed for varying detention periods and the values obtained after treatment using the duckweed system were well within acceptable limits. This study will be helpful in further developing a waste. water treatment plant based on duckweed system.
