Abstract: Steel is one of the most popular materials used in structural applications of all kinds, due to its high strength-to-weight and strength-to-cast ratio and the ease and speed of construction of steel structures. In developing country like India there is ever increasing demand of constructing a large number of industrial buildings. The time and money involved in the analysis and design of such structures can be very much reduced by adopting Computer Aided Analysis and Design techniques. In this dissertation, CAD software has been developed for the analysis and design of roof elements of industrial steel buildings. The software has been divided in two parts. In the first part, an efficient program is written to facilitate the analysis and design of various elements of industrial building such as roof truss, purlins, wind bracings for roof and gantry girder which is usually a part of an industrial building. The program has been written in Fortran-77. For the design of roof truss provision of IS:456-1984 have been followed strictly.
