Abstract: /4 large number of vehicles on roadway have turned it into 'Killerways'. The rising accident rate has created tremendous pressure on precious human life. Severity of road accident can be minimised, if the vehicle can be stopped within a safe reach in case of an emergency stop. Skid Resistance of the pavement surface plays a vital role in stopping the vehicle within a safe reach without accident. In the present study, an etteopt has been made to find out the effect of filler on skid resistance characteristics of bituminous paving mixes. For skid testing, the Portable Skid Resistance Tester has been used which is very simple in use and quick in giving results. It has immense potential to be used in countries like India with limited financial resources and skilled manpower. The tests have revealed that addition of filler improves the skid resistance of the bituminous. paving mix with an added advantage of improvements in other properties of mix such as stability, flexibility and durability.
