Abstract: Due to continous escalation trend of the cost of various resources needed for power generation, the cost of power output is increasing in the same proportion. So, there is the necessity of either exploring the new resource or to improve the overall efficiency of the plant. Recently the approach of combined steam and gas turbine cycle of power generation has been identified as an appropriate attempt to lead a techno-economically viable power plant. The present investigation pertains to the thermodynamic analysis of conventional steam turbine and combined steam & gas turbine cycle of 30 MW capacity, revealing that combined cycle plant can generate electric power at a much lower cost compared to conventional steam plant of the same rating, and with increased overall efficiency of the plant
