Abstract: Buildings are essential for human being for shelter. Buildings on hill slopes are some what different from others.This is due to the floors "steps-back" towards the hillside resulting in unequal column lengths which jeopardizes the stiffness distribution of the building.In addition to step back buildings on hill slopes are provided with set-back which contributes to additional asymmetry. In this dissertation a mathematical model for 2D seismic analysis of buildings on hill-slopes have been proposed. This model takes into account the effect of short columns on the overall distribution of the building stiffness. Using this model Time history analysis has been carried out.Time history used is the longitudinal component of Koyna Earthquake ( 22 Dec. 1967 ). With attempt to understand the dynamic behaviour and seismic response of buildings on hill slopes and to find out the accuracy of proposed models and method of analysis two buildings have been chosen.(1) A 4- Storey building (2) A 5- Storey building.Three different cases have been considered for each type of building and a comparison has been made between seismic responses of buildings for each cases as obtained by time history analysis. For the whole analysis DRAIN - 2DX Programme has been used
