The present dissertation work investigates the performance of a three phase induction motor operated as a single phase induction generator self excited by a single capacitor across two stator, terminal. The model is based on the unbalance equivalent circuit of the induction machine operated on single phase supply. The model has been tested with experimental data of given reference and the validated model is used for simulating important steady state characteristics on resistive and inductive loads. The effect of introducing series capacitor for both resistive and inductive load is also examined. The capacitor values are chosen from very small to very high value so as to understand typical variation trend involved. The voltage unbalance which results due to such operation is computed In term of an unbalance factor and specific conclusions are drawn from the results of the study.en_US
