Abstract: The ultimate objective of any literature is that content be read and made use of. However the quantity of published material is Increasing according to an exponential law. Therefore traditional type of library management system is fast becoming obsolete and meaningless for such fast expanding literature storage and retrieval as it may be incapable of coping with the . mass of knowledge in the shape of books and non book material. With the Introduction of computers it can be claimed that computers can serve as a panacea for all the existing ills of libraries. Since these can be made use of for performing efficiently all sorts of jobs, from the procurement of the reading material to their organisations and use. The knowledge explosion or the information exploration, especially during the last decades or so has resulted in making the librarians provide a master key to their repository of knowledge. So an efficient way to extract relevant literature needs a information retrieval system. Information retrieval requires a database and host computer. Most scientific fields nowadays have their own database. However Photograrn retry and Remote Sensing section has no comprehensive database. Information regarding the literature in Remote Sensing and Photogranunetry is scattered at many places making retrieval cumbersome and expensive. In this dissertation a case study for developing a database for literature in the field of Remote Sensing which encompasses Surveying, Geodesy, Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing has been undertaken so as to establish a Remote Sensing Referencing System. To obtain access conveniently, quickly and economically this literature makes it imperative to devise procedures for the utilization of databases in user orientated systems. The object of this dissertation thus is to be a forum for researchers and, workers working in the field of Remote Sensing and Photogrammetry and to serve all persons interested in the field to have easy access to reference of their interest
