Abstract: The change in climate of a particular region is essentially a natural phenomena. The contribution in climate change due to artificial causes can not be ignored. Besides other factors, the following are supposed to cause an artificial change of climate. (i) Rapid explosion of population and urbanisation. (ii) Rapid industrialisation particularly small scale industries. (iii)Deforestation (iv) Emission of Greenhouse gases such as Carbondioxide, Oxides of Nitrogen, Methane, Chlorofuorocarbons etc. into the atmosphere. In the present study, the data for the main climate parameters such as monsoon rainfall and temperature are analysed. Twelve stations of the Ganga Basin have been selected for monsoon rainfall analysis with the rainfall data of 90 years. Seven stations are selected for temperature data analysis. In addition to the stations of Ganga Basin, monsoon rainfall and temperature data for India is also analysed. The aim of the present investigation is to detect the trend if any, in the climate parameters and also to quantify the trend. Trend has been found by Robust Smoothing Technique whereas it has been quantified by a test-statistic known as Mann-Kendall test-statistic. No correlation has been found which justifies the relationship between the change in climate parameters and the artficial causes resulting the climate change.
