Abstract: R.C. retaining wall is a very important and widely used structure especially in construction and maintainance of highways. Hence the design of retaining wall should be done quickly and accurately with full details. Experience has shown many advantages of using computer programs with interactive graphics facility. A great deal of valuable time in designing and analysing the retaining wall is saved. Graphics package reduces the drafting time and expenditure to almost neglegible amount and the result in form of graphics gives the designer ,iLbetter feel of design. With the introduction of computer and computer graphics, the details of various parts of retaining wall can be shown easily and effectively. Hence to satisfy the need of the day and to get a correct design with full details in a small time, the requirement of design of retaining wall with the help of computer automatically comes into existance. The present dessertation work consists of development of a user-friendly interactive program 'CADDREW' for design and drafting of R.C. retaining walls. The package is developed and implemented on microcomputers. With the steadily decreasing prices and easy accessibility of personal computers such packages developed on PC's, are highly desired. The program is interactive and uses the graphics facility of 'TURBO C'to display full details of ( iv ) retaining wall in pictorial form and is sophisticated and efficient enough to take into account different soil conditions and loading conditions that may exist in field. It makes pseudo dynamic analysis of retaining wall to take into account the seismic effect by making use of IS : 1893-1984 provisions. It calculates increase in earth pressure due to earthquake, surcharge pressure and increment in it due to earthquake and makes modification for water table. The detailed design of stem, toe, heel and shearkey conforms to the IS : 456-1978 requirements. The program takes input through graphics and displays output in graphical form. The package 'CADDREW fulfills the requirement of the day and satisfies the need of the user.
