Abstract: Use of reinforcement in granular soils is becoming popular day by day as this practice has led to significant improvement in response of soil against its use in retaining walls, foundations and in embankments. Though, in general all reinforcing materials used till now, have resulted increase in strength of the soil, but there is no general relationship between strength of reinforced soil and various properties of reinforcing materials. So to have quantitative as well as qualitative idea about response of a soil reinforced with a particular type of reinforcing material, it is necessary to conduct enough model tests on each type of reinforced soil. Keeping above fact in mind, in this investigation, enough number of drained triaxial compression tests have been conducted on locally available Amanatgarh sand reinforced with two types of Indian geotextiles manufactured by Bombay dying, India. Tests are conducted under effective confinements ranging from 50 KPa to' 500 KPa. Shape of reinforcement is circular. Amount of reinforcement is varied from one to four layers. Percentage (gain in strength, equivalent increase in confinement, C-0: failure strength parameters, percentage gain in secant modulus, strain at failure and lateral strain of each type of reinforced sample is reported in tabular and graphical forms.
