dc.description.abstractThe dissertation titled COMPUTER AIDED DESIGN OF ANCHORAGE BLOCKS FOR TRAIL SUSPENSION BRIDGES explores the aspects of design of anchorage blocks and discusses the program ANKDES an acronym for anchorage design, which has been developed for the design of anchorage blocks. The design of anchorage blocks is based on the work published by the engineers of the suspension bridge division in Nepal who have been constructing trail suspension bridges in Nepal for the past 30 years. The book is published by the swiss company, HELVETAS. The ANKDES system provides an integrated, interactive, and user friendly environment for the design of anchorage blocks. The system provides an interactive data entry template for easy editing of data before submitting it to the design module. The system also provides context-sensitive help. This is implemented whenever the user presses the Fl key. The system also gives a graphical view of the block designed. The ANKDES system has been written in C programming language using the Turbo C 2.0 compiler under DOS environment. The system was developed on an IBM 386 machine but could be run on any of the IBM (PC, PC XT, PC AT, 386, 486) machines and all currently popular graphic adapters. The ANKDES system encompasses an open ended architecture of organisation which enables it to append additional modules to the systemen_US
