Issue Date: 1991
Abstract: This work was undertaken to compare several properties of Brass castings poured in V-Process and green sand molds. To minimize melting and heat treating variables, all molds of the above alloy were poured at the same temperature and all castings used for a given test were, heat treated in the same furnace. The data shows that 'V-Process' has excellent dimensional accuracy and high surface finish as compared to that of green sand molding. High volume porosity was obtained in case of green sand molding. High hardness and high tensile strength was obtained in green sand molding as compared to that of 'V-Process'. Significant difference was obtained in mean impact strength between both the processes. After heat treatment, the tensile strength, % elongation and hardness increase in both the cases but the % Increase in the above stated properties was not appreciable
