dc.description.abstract | Continued growth of population coupled with poor spatial planning and development withilo, cities in India have resulted in a significant increase in travel demand causing substantial strain on already overloaded urban transportation infrastructure. There is a growing demand for public transport, which is already overloaded and inadequate both in quality and quantity of service. In addition to this, rising standards of living with liberalised policy of automobile production in the country has paved the way towards increased vehicular ownership in urban areas which has resulted in traffic congestion, hazardous journey and environmental pollution and above all fuel crisis. Thus, planners and engineers are repeatedly called upon for an innovative competing transport mode, to mitigate these problems. The planning of an innovative mode is an outcome of mode choice analysis and based on tae desires of community of urban travellers that induced the hisiber patronage to public transport, enabling to reduce the number of personalised vehicles on the roads. Mode Choice Analysis refers to that critical step in transport planning which is used to map the commuter behaviour and transport characteristics on to the demand for a particular mode. In the present work, an attempt has been made to develop a generalised software for mode choice analysis. The software 1 | en_US |
