Study has been conducted to allocate motorists on alternate route link in erstwhile district Saharanpur. Data was collected through transportation survey with survey stations located at the two ends of alternate route links. Motorists are classified in three categories viz. local, regional and inter-regional. Separate discriminant models have been developed for car drivers and truck drivers. Only two variable namely travel time and speed are incorporated in the models. The two developed models are highly significant when checked. with R2, F-value and Bartlett's statistics. Curiously most of the inter-regional motorists are lacking in the information about the existence of the alternate route link. Finally it is recommended that generic motorist route allocation models should be developed incorporating other significant variables. The data from several choice situations should be used for such analysis. iiien_US
