The'object of the present work is to determine the local geopotential coefficients which can be exclusively used for the Indian Subcontinent to obtain detailed geoid. Till recently the astrogeodetic systems of Indian were non geocentric. Due to non-uniform distribution and location of the astrogeodetic stations, in most of the part of the conti-nent, geoid may be very approximate. Determination of local geolotentiai coefficients will provide the estimation of the geoid more accurately in any part of the continent, if suffi-cient data are available to determine the.geopotential coefficients to a sufficiently high degree and order. Chapter I presents a general Introduction of the work presented in the thesis, exposing the objectives and motivation behind it. Chapter II deals with the general principles involved in the determination of local geopotential coefficients. Legen-der's functions its associative functions and derivatives are also discussed, which is an essential part for its determination. Chapter III deals with the different formulas and data used in the determination of local geopotential coefficients. Different steps for the computation procedure is also discussed here., Chapter IV deals with the results with a brief account on their accuracy and discussions.en_US
