An investigation of flow past pier groups in open channel. flow has been carried out experimentally for the Proud number ranging from 0.27 to 0.47, Reynolds 4 number ranging from 3.5 x 104 to 5.8 x , Results for three interrelated problems, viz., drag, efflux and energy loss for pier group and that for equivalent solid 9-limier has been compared in this thesis. Afflux and energy loss- depend strongly on drag coefficient of obstruction in the gradient flow problem. Drag coefficient for pier group has been obtained from experimental study and that for equivalent solid cylinder, has been obtained theoretically by procecbre suggested by Range Raju et. al. ( 5 ).. The knowledge of drag coeff icient enable s the computation of efflux and energy loss using the theoretical equations. These values of drag coefficient, efflux and on c9v, ler-) I- SnVc1 cbli no\ e)..- energy lossAare reasonably higher than measured values for pier group.en_US
