dc.description.abstract | Circular channels are often used for conveyance of fluids. I + there is large head at the entrance of a circular channel, complete pipe flow takes place. With low entrance head flow may be partially pipe-flow and for the remaining portion it will be an open channel flow. But if the bead at the entrance is equal to diameter of the circular channel or lower than this completely open channel flow will take place. A tunnel taken off for diversion of river • water during the construction of a dam may have very low entrance head. The upper limit of flow profile will be equal to the head at the entrance, but the lower limit which is equal to critical depth for the maximum discharge is an implicit function of discharge, a trial and error solution is needed for calculating the discharge. A computer programme has been developed _for. calculating discharge by integration of flow profile and trial and error solution. An equation is proposed for maximum discharge by comparing the discharges obtained by this equation, taking relevant variables in to account, and that obtained from computations, and error between the two is minimised. Now this proposed equation will directly give the maximum discharge through horizontal circular channel, which is valid for a wide range of different parameters | en_US |
