Word processing is today used extensively by all people who have something to do with writing down ideas. Most offices today use word processing in one form or another. Commercial word processing packages now come with many advanced features such as spelling and style correctors. Today some word processors are also available with on line spell check facility. During the past few years, the need has increasingly been felt to incorporate syntax checking features in word processors. Some software packages have now been developed that provide limited off-line grammatical help. The use of grammar checking can identify many mistakes which the style and the spell checker might miss. One of the goals of today's NLP research is to develop the techniques for just such a package. With the availability of faster processors and larger, high speed memories, this goal seems realizable to a limited extent in the near future.en_US
