dc.description.abstractIn hilly regions development of sites and subsequent construction of structure is a complex phenomenon. Conventional approach to the design of building, by considering it fixed at the base, i.e. foundation level, is inadequate. Further, the approach to bearing capacity of foundation based on shear failure and slope stability criteria does not reveal the true picture. A 'soil-structure-Interaction' study will reveal most realistic values of stresses, strains, settlements etc. This study examines the problem of soil-structure-interaction of buildings on slopes. A detailed parametric study is presented assuming rock to be a linear, isotropic material. Parameters studied are : 1) Ratio of width to height of structure. 2) Ratio of Edge Distance to Depth of footing. 3) Slope Angle of Hill Slope. 4) Static and Dynamic Loads. A study is also conducted on deformation patterns of rock, foundation as well as structure. Results are presented in the form of representative plots as well as parametric plots. It is believed that this study can serve as a basis of more advanced studies of soil-structure-interaction on sloping• grounds.en_US
