Critical flow condition is among' the most important concept in Hydraulics. It has found various uses as in flow measurements, control sections and in gradually varied flow. Till now plots are available to determine the critical depth of flow at a given discharge or vice versa for open channel having rectangular, trapezoidal and circular cross sections. The analysis presented herein for two types of sections used in practice, i.e., sections closing at top (sewer sections) and modified trapezoidal sections (used as canal sections). Highly accurate explicit relationships have been developed to determine critical depth for the above said open channel large discharge sections.en_US
