Title: PARAMETRIC STUDY OF A PEDESTRIAN CABLE STAYED BRIDGE

Abstract: A cable stayed bridge havix;two towers at the ends of its span is not &so frequently used form. One such cable stayed pedestrian bridge of 72.m span, which also happens to be the first cable stayed bridge completed in India, has been taken up for study in this dissertation. The study has been carried, out to see the effects of creep, in cables, cable size, foundation settlement, temperature, nonlinearity and broken cable condition on this bridge. Development of a CAD programme to generate the. profile of the bridge in elevation with the superimposed deflections has also been successfully achieved. In the study it was found that creep in cables can increase significantly the sagging moments in girder. With, reduction in cable size there is practically little change of cable' forces but the stresses in the girders are found to increase significantly. For a differential temperature of 30°C between the two halves, it is observed that two sides of the bridges do not show exactly symmetrical behavour. Uniform temperature change shows significant increase in sagging moments. There is almost a.$ linear variation of deflection with temperature change. The bridge is not so sensitive to vertical foundation settlements as compared to rotation of the foundation. For broken cable condition the Left side tower is very sensitive for a left side back stay broken.
