The urban areas offer the advantages of higher wages, more employment opportunities. 1.0.0 URBANISATION IN GUJRAT GititIriti is one of the highly urbanised state of India. According to 1981 census 91.08% of population live in urban areas. The urban population in Gujrat has almost doubled during the last 1961 to 1981. Number of class II towns has increased from 9 to 23 upto 1981. With its population tripling from 5.61 lacs to 15.34 lacs. As per 1971 census, urban population was 66.48 and in 1981 urban population was 80.102 (20.1%). 1.0.1 URBAN PROBLEMS : Problems of urbanisation in India were first traced out in detail at an international seminar held at Berkeley in 1960.
