Abstract: | Industrialization is the mainstay of modern civilization. The politicians, administrators, planners, economists, industr-ialists and even the ordinary citizen talk about the need for rapid industrialization for economic prosperity of the nation. Industrial development is most important of all economic developments since it raises the per capita income and standard of living at a faster pace. At the same time, it provides emp7 . loyment to a large numbers of workers. When India became an independent and soverign State in 1947, the Government of India recognised the importance of industrialisation as 'a base for the growth of primary sector, as a catalytic agent for the development of infra-structure, as a stimulant to generatiOn of technologies through R & D effort �â� �¢ and as a growth multiplier'�â� �¢. The goals and objectives set out for the nation by Pandit J.L. Nehru on the eve of independence, viz., 'the rapid expansion of opportunities for gainful employment, progressive reduction of social and economic dis-parties, removal of poverty and attainment of self reliance remain as valid. today as at the time of Pandit Nehru first set them out before the Nation' Any development by any polidy must contribute to the realisation of these goals and objectives at an accelerated pace... |
