dc.description.abstractGrowing urbanisation has given rise to tremendous increase of traffic in major corridors of the urban areas. such a high demands can only be catered by a supply strategy incorporating different modes, channalising it in such a way that a balanced share is carried out by each mode providing desired accessibility to each trip maker. Such situations are worst in case of peak hours when most of the travellers go to the work. The overcrowded buses/long queues of peoples waiting at bus stops, frequent traffic jams due to so many different modes can be seen very commonly. To come out of this type of situation, supply of suffecient number of vehicles for each modes at rush hours, their scheduling etc. are of utmost importance. For this purpose mode choices of people should be known. This dissertation report is an attempt to know the mode choices of residents of Delhi with an entirely new methodology of log linear modelling. The objective of this thesis is to obtain a best fit log-linear model which parsimoniously describes the mode choice of people under the given set of conditions. The results obtained show that income level, distance, age and waiting time and travel cost all have their effects on the choice of modes. Transit mode was preferred than personalised modes because of economy, comfort and safety., Captive riders also prefer transit modes due to economy and other reasons.
